Grocery cards provide a convenient way for our clients to purchase groceries near the end of the month when their resources do not meet their basic needs.
We find this more efficient than the traditional food bank model. Although we appreciated the food donations of community members to what was formerly called the “Community Cupboard” – the supply and variety was unpredictable and storage, sorting and purchasing required monthly to ensure nutritional balance was labour intensive.
The food card alternative offers our clients more consistency and personal choice in their menus and allows our volunteers to spend more time understanding client needs.
Your donations are most appreciated to enable us to purchase food cards for your less fortunate neighbours in Nanoose Bay.
