A small but cheerful group of local residents took to their feet Sunday April 2nd and raised $1,893 for the Nanoose Community Services (NCS) food program. The Feat for Food event was organized for the 7th year in a row by Dr. Rustin Abdurahman’s wife, Rhonda and his dental team at Nanoose Bay Dental. There was sunshine, laughter, chit chat, and refreshments as runners and walkers made their way up Northwest Bay Road route and back again. JSK traffic flaggers donated their time to ensure everyone was safe.
“It was a smaller turnout than last year but a very generous group”, said Rhonda of the approximately 60 women, men, children and some canine walkers on leashes. “Last year’s run was double that number even though it rained. I’m optimistic that the community spirit is strong in Nanoose and we’ll get more out next year.”
Still, it was an enthusiastic group and the money raised will help NCS with a much-needed infusion of money to assist the over 40 clients it now serves in our community. NCS chairperson, Andree Fortin, was presented the cheque by Dr. Abdurahman at the end of the walk.
I really enjoy being a part of this community”, said Dr. Abdurahman. “My wife Rhonda and I sincerely appreciate those who are able to help our neighbours because we see the difference it makes”.
It was great to see people from all generations out participating and bonding together. Draw prizes were donated and awarded to several people as well.
Many local businesses stepped up to sponsor the event: The Medicine Centre, Springford Farm, Winestines, and a number of others including Quality Foods, and Starbucks who supplied refreshments.
