A host of volunteers served 125 meals on Christmas day (and ten extra people joined but did not eat). Guitar music was from Jodi Fulsom and Raffi and some singers from the host church, St Mary’s Anglican, ensured festive music throughout the event.
A turkey and giant squash were donated by Colin and Diane Springford from Springford Farm, who also came to serve. Pumpkin pies and buns were donated by Marjorie Driscoll from Vancouver Island Workability Program, and Kathy Lowe from Nanoose Community Services (NCS) donated delicious trifles for dessert! Four turkeys, two large hams and a great variety of vegetables were consumed. All the food was donated and all that was left was mashed potato which is now frozen and ready for shepherd’s pie for the next Community Dinner (and Springford Farm has already offered to donate the beef).
Coordinators of the event were Jean Russell (St. Mary’s Church) and Joanie Miller (NCS). Jean declared it “a wonderful day! The noise, laughter, never-ending arrival of hungry guests from Errington, Parksville and Nanoose, the hubbub of chatter and friendly conversation made it a great celebration for all”.
Delicious hospitality at its best!
