Neighbours Help Neighbours During Unsettling Times

Residents of Nanoose Bay are experiencing a strange period of isolation and social separation and many find it unsettling.  Tough in a community of friendly, caring and socially active people.  Nevertheless, we know it is temporary and most can cope.  However, there are those of us for whom daily life at the best of times is a challenge, and even more so in these difficult times.  If you know of a neighbour who is alone, has difficulty getting out for groceries or to run errands, or is unable to sustain themselves and their families through this health emergency, reach out and let them know that you or someone in the community can help.

Nanoose Community Services (NCS) will continue to provide services to seniors and needy families residing in Nanoose Bay. We are streamlining our procedures to minimize exposure of the recent virus to our clients and volunteers.

In addition, there is a broader community social media site that connects seniors and others in need with people willing to deliver groceries and run errands:

There is also a clear document online that lists the various types of financial supports available at present:

NCS is grateful for the generosity of our community throughout 2019, which has left us well positioned financially should demand rise over this period.  Local individuals, businesses and organizations have, as always, stepped up to support our assistance to local people in need.

Recent Donation to Honour Nanoose Bay Volunteer Fire Department

Recently, a family in Madrona, donated $1,000 to NCS through their River Foundation in appreciation for the outstanding service they received from the Nanoose Volunteer Fire Department when their neighbour’s house was in flames recently.  “The crews from Nanoose, Errington and Parksville fire stations saved our home on Bay Dr. from being burned and damaged in late February.  My husband and I would like to make a donation to NCS in the name of the Nanoose Fire Department in honor of their outstanding service”, said the family in a message to NCS.

Thinking of NCS’s executive, volunteers and clients, and hoping you are all safe during this difficult time. Look forward to a visit with you when Covid 19 is behind us. Keep up the wonderful work!

    Best wishes, always, Ginny (Brucker)
