Local egg farmers help feed the community
Nanoose Community Services has been the recipient of a significant donation of eggs from Springford Farm.
As the price of food escalated due to the pandemic, NCS was pleasantly surprised and grateful when Springford Farm reached out and offered to donate their fresh eggs to folks in our Food Program. “As we started to see the price of food climb and the loss of jobs, we knew NCS Food Program participants were going to feel the negative impacts the most in our community. It was such a welcome note to get from Springford Farm that they were willing to donate eggs,” says Cait M, NCS Food Program volunteer.
Thanks to Springford Farm each month NCS Food Program participants receive a dozen eggs at Food Day. Over 200 dozen eggs have been donated to date! A shout-out of appreciation to NCS volunteers too who do an egg-cellent job of picking up the cartons and keeping them refrigerated until Food Day. It takes a village!
The Springford family has long been a supporter of Nanoose Community Services. Their farm market, featuring locally raised beef, pork, lamb, sausages, free range eggs, whole roasting chickens – as well as over 60 Vancouver Island farms and artisanal food producers – is open Thursday – Sunday: 10:00am – 5:00pm. Check their website for the most up to date information.
