A general meeting of Nanoose Community Services (NCS) will be held via Zoom for the sole purpose of electing an additional Director at Large to help with the workload of operating the charity. Donors and volunteers of NCS are invited to join the meeting if they wish.

The Board is supporting Shirley McDonald for the position. Shirley stepped in to help with organizing the Gala this past fall and has been willing and able to continue to volunteer with various administrative, fundraising, and event planning tasks

Shirley McDonald’s Bio

Hello, my name is Shirley McDonald. I moved to Vancouver Island two years ago with my wonderful husband, Darren. Prior to moving to the island, I worked for KPMG and MNP for several years, starting as a receptionist/financial statement typist, then on to a tax secretary and finally someone at some point roped me into preparing US and Canadian income tax returns. I was a personal and corporate tax preparer for about 16 years before I retired from the world of accounting.

After two years on Vancouver Island, I felt it was time to get involved in the community so I reached out on Facebook for some guidance. Nanoose Community Services popped up in the conversation (thanks Jenn H.) and after doing a little online research, it seemed like a good fit. I grew up in a single parent home, so I’m aware of the importance of the work that is done by NCS.

In the past I have volunteered with the Abbotsford Community Police office, Block Watch, the Special Olympics, Ducks Unlimited and various galas though my previous employers. I’ve always enjoyed working behind the scenes as part of a team to ensure all goes smoothly at the actual events. Organizing seems to be what I am drawn to however I do enjoy using my creative side as well. I am open to be of assistance wherever I may be needed. Whether it’s data entry work to get things up and running or kept up to date, or assisting with the Elf program set up, I’m here and available. I hope you will consider me for a spot somewhere in the NSC organization. Thank you.
