I grew up in South Africa but left when I was 21 and have lived in the UK, Calgary, Germany, Texas, Nova Scotia and for the last 5 years in Nanoose which is where I will stay. No more moving!
I’ve got a B.A. Psychology from South Africa, a B.Ed from Calgary and a U.K. diploma in the assessment and teaching of children with dyslexia. I started off working in a psychiatric emergency unit with people who had attempted suicide, but then switched to teaching regular high school classes after getting my B.Ed. However, for most of my working life, my specialty was worked with younger children with dyslexia.
In terms of volunteer work, I delivered meals on wheels to the elderly in the UK, was chair of the parent teacher association at my son’s school in England, was chair of a ladies group in Texas and worked for animal shelters in Texas and Nova Scotia as well as fostering dogs.
I think B.C. is a stunningly beautiful place to live and am looking forward to getting involved in N.C.S.
