Christmas is a happy time for most of us, but for a few people struggling to make ends meet, it can be a time of stress and sadness. Money woes, loneliness and media pressure to buy and be happy is often intensified during the holiday season.
What We Do
The NCS Christmas ‘Elf’ program helps to brighten the season for families and seniors by providing Nanoose Bay residents, wishing to help out, with an opportunity to purchase, wrap and give gifts of clothes, toys, food vouchers, household items, etc. to their less fortunate neighbours.
To learn about sponsoring a family or a senior this Christmas, contact Geraldine: email@example.com or 250-468-7838.
Mid-November each year, trees set up in locations throughout the community are adorned with ‘gift wish’ tags. Donors can pick a tag, buy a gift and place it under any of the tree locations. This special gift will bring great joy to a neighbour’s child or a senior in our community. For more information on the trees & tags, contact Head Elf: Geraldine Taron firstname.lastname@example.org or 250-468-7838.
What You Do
Through the kind generosity of Nanoose Bay residents, the ‘Elf’ program brought Christmas joy to 62 adults and 45 children in 2019. Almost $37,500 was raised in donations. We look forward to doing as well again this year, with your help!
From The Heart
Expressions of appreciation and joy in past years attest to the impact of this type of giving during the holiday season:
“My oldest son said: Santa must love me a lot to send me such a warm coat”
“Thank you so much for such wonderful Christmas gifts. Everything was perfect and our little girl has not let her teddy go since Christmas. Her first Christmas was really special”
“What a lovely surprise to see such generous gifts for my family. I had everything hidden away until Christmas morning and the children woke to find a beautiful display of gifts waiting for them to open”
