Volunteer with Nanoose Community Services

NCS is currently seeking volunteers for the Community Income Tax Program and a Volunteer Coordinator to serve on the Board of Directors in 2022. See below for descriptions and who to contact.

In addition to the specific positions currently available, Nanoose Community Services has various other volunteer needs throughout the year: on the Food Team, at fundraising events, and providing administrative support. Whether you have an hour, a year, or a day a month, whatever your skills, we appreciate your time. Have your name added to our List of Volunteers by completing the form at the bottom of this page.

Current positions

Volunteer Position: Community Income Tax Program

Want to help people in your community? Do you have a basic understanding of income tax? Volunteer with our community organization to help people by doing their taxes! During the 2021 tax season, you can volunteer at a virtual tax clinic and help people file their taxes by video conference, by phone, or through a document drop-off arrangement.

Last year Nanoose Community Services signed up to assist individuals who are unable to complete their returns on their own. With the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP), you’ll be part of a national program helping thousands of people get their entitled benefits and credits. The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) is organized by the Canada Revenue Agency.

Some experience doing tax returns is helpful but not required. All volunteers are offered web-based training on completing tax returns, using tax preparation software, and on their responsibilities as a volunteer. This web-based training can be supplemented with in-person training (following local public health advice and measures), or WebEx live sessions. Our very experienced volunteers from last year, Judy Miller and Randy Borger, are willing to provide advice to our new volunteers (thank you Judy and Randy!).

The busiest time is tax season, from the end of February to early May, but some people need help throughout the year.

Email NCS Client Services Team Lead, Marion Clark, if you’re interested in volunteering with the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program at Nanoose Community Services or would like more information.
